Local Wal-Mart store offering $4 generic prescription program

Under Wal-Mart's new $4 generic drug plan, both the insured and uninsured can receive 314 different generic prescriptions for up to a 30-day supply at commonly prescribed dosages for just $4. The program has been extended out to 1,264 Wal-Mart and Sam's Club pharmacies, including the Wal-Mart here in Navasota. Drugs offered in the Wal-Mart program include antidepressants, high blood pressure and allergy medicines among several others. Some of the top-branded medications covered by generic counterparts under the program are: Glucophage for diabetes; Tenormin for high blood pressure; Prinivil, an ACE inhibitor; Zestril, an ACE inhibitor; Synthroid for thyroid and Lasix, a diuretic.

While some criticize Wal-Mart in saying that the new program is a strategy designed to use generic drugs as a way to bring people into their store to buy other merchandise, Wal-Mart says that their commitment is to bring affordable healthcare to America's working families.
