St. Mary's Guardian Angels Seniors to host bingo day Dec. 21 n The Grimes County Crime Stoppers held their annual awards banquet on December 9 at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Anderson. Awards presented were Officer of the Year - Game Warden Jonny Heaton; Communications Officer of the Year - Robert Fife, Navasota PD; Support Person of the Year - Glen Love, Grimes Co. SO; Jailer of the Year - Irene Love, Grimes Co. SO; and Elected Law Officer of the Year - Constable Dale Schaper. Certificates of Recognition went to DPS officer David Daley; Sgt. David Ellison, Navasota PD; and Investigator John Wren, Grimes Co. SO for their service and to Chris Siracusa and Bob Galaway for preparing the food. A plaque was presented to Judge Ken Keeling and Congressman Chet Edwards for their service to Grimes County. nA huge thank you to all those who supported the success of the Grimes County 4-H Scholarship Pancake Breakfast this past Saturday morning. Many thanks to those who donated toys for the Toys for Tots program and also to Santa “Charlie.” The morning was well worth the effort. n Seven CCE students from St. Stanislaus Catholic Church were confirmed by Archbishop Daniel Dinardo and assisted by Fr. Louis Sikorski during the 6:00 mass on Saturday, December 9. Those students included Bridget Coronado, Chelsey Licce, Scott Pasket, Lance Schroeder, Jaret Sechelski, Deaven Szymanski and Aaron Walkoviak. n Cori Utley became the bride of Josh Mooney on December 9 at the First Methodist Church in Huntsville. A dinner and dance reception followed at Waterwood Country Club. Cori is the daughter of Mike and Brenda Utley of Huntsville and is employed by Grimes County as the Administrative Assistant to County Attorney Jon C. Fultz and works with Brenda Williams as the Crime Victims Coordinator. Josh is the son of Jimmy Mooney and Thelma Mooney. After a honeymoon trip to Jamaica, the couple will make their home in Huntsville. n A residential treatment center, Gardener's Kids Center, is being planned for Grimes County. The facility, housing boys between the ages of 9-17, will be located one mile north of SH 105 on FM 2445 near Stoneham. There have been lots of pros and cons concerning this issue. A public hearing is scheduled for Thursday, December 14 from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Navasota Center located at 101 Stadium Drive. Individuals will be invited to present their comments for or against the RTC at this meeting. n Support the Anderson-Shiro Varsity Cheerleaders by attending their Christmas Bake Sale at Wal-Mart on Wednesday, December 20. n St. Mary's Guardian Angels Seniors will host bingo day on December 21 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at their parish hall in Plantersville. Lunch will be provided but side dishes are welcomed. nBelated birthday wishes to Mark Hitchcock who celebrated on December 6.
