Self-help for that big pistol Rod, bow and gun by Danny Stout Some of you hunters, I'm sure, have run into the problem of carrying a large pistol if you're hunting. There are many good holsters to do this, but many kind of cut into the shoulder when in use, so this may help you with that problem. I made up a holster for my Thompson Center Contender because it has a 14-inch barrel and holsters of that size cost quite a bit, and when I got ready to wear it I opted to use a padded camera strap. I put two 1-inch rings at the top of the holster to connect the strap to. If you're in a stand blind or climbing a tree this would simply around your neck as in the picture, but if you are on an ATV you can attach it to the steering column, leaving your hands free to run the ATV. Lets face it, those big guns are great, but they are heavy, and if you carry one, you had better be comfortable with it. My wife posed for the picture, but she wouldn't shoot the gun, which is a 44 Magnum. Smart girl.
