Esther M. Schrimpf

1920 - 2008

Esther Mary Manlick Schrimpf, 88, Rockwood, went to her eternal reward Friday morning, March 14, 2008 at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Manitowoc.

She was born February 7, 1920 in Auburndale, WI, to Louis and Anna Knier Manlick. At the age of 18, she moved to Manitowoc where she became a trained attendant at Holy Family Hospital. It was there that she met a patient, Joseph H. Schrimpf, who she married February 14, 1942 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Auburndale. The young couple made their home in Rockwood where she has lived for the past 66 years, being the longest living resident of Rockwood.

For a short period of time, Esther managed the Schrimpf Restaurant in Rockwood and later, with her husband Joe, they owned and operated Interstate Petroleum Installation Co. for over 25 years, retiring in 1983.

A long time member of St. Anne Catholic Church in Francis Creek where she was a member of the Christian Mothers Society, she was also a member of the Rockwood Homemakers.

Esther believed in giving back to the community she loved and took an active part in the establishment of the boundaries for the Rockwood children to be in the Manitowoc School District as well as the installation of street lights in Rockwood.

She was also one of the team leaders for the American Heart Assoc. A strong, independent and proud lady, she helped along side her husband, build their home 1952 which she continued to maintain and live until she died.

Esther loved gardening, have both lovely flowers, as well as a vegetable garden. However, her greatest joy was her family, being a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

Preceded in death by her parents, she also was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Joseph H. Schrimpf; sisters and brothers, Sister Paul Marie Manlick, Eleanor Goldbach and husband Norbert and Walter Manlick and wife Josephine and Alice Franz and husband John.

Survivors include two daughters, JoAnn Holt and husband Grant of Navasota, TX and Judy Pamperin and husband Keith of Green Bay, WI; two grandchildren, Jane Pamperin of Minneapolis, MN and Jared Pamperin and wife Michelle and their son Tyler of New London, WI; a brother, Roger Manlick and wife Bea of Mission, TX; sisters-in-law, Carol Courchaine of Sheboygan and Lucille Meyer of Manitowoc; a special friend and neighbor, Thomas “Tommy” Oswald of Rockwood, WI as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relative and a great number of friends.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at St. Anne Catholic Church in Francis Creek. The rite of committal will follow in St. Anne Catholic Cemetery.

For those that desire, the family has requested memorials to Christ Our Light Catholic Church Building Fund, 510 Manley, Navasota, 77868, St. Joseph Foundation, Bryan, TX, Navasota Public Library or a favorite charity.
