Pedestrian loses life in accident

BY DAVE LEWIS, Examiner publisher

A 33-year-old Bedias man was struck and killed on S.H. 90 Friday, Aug. 8, just north of Roans Prairie according to officials with the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Phelogan Butaud, an unemployed worker who lived on C.R. 176 near Bedias, was walking north on the east side of S.H. 90 at approximately 12:05 a.m. when the incident occurred, according to the report filed by DPS Trooper David Daley of Anderson.

Daley’s report stated Butaud stepped in front of a 1995 Ford pickup truck being driven by Janet Williams Stine, also of Bedias, who attempted to swerve and miss the man.

Butaud was pronounced dead at the scene by Pct. 1 Justice of the Peace Gene Stapleton at 12:55 a.m. last Friday.

Investigators think Butaud may have had car trouble and may have been walking to get help when the accident occurred but could not confirm that was the case.
