A man who barricaded himself inside a Navasota residence, as he reportedly fired shots, was taken into custody at about 9:35 p.m.
City of Navasota Marketing and Communications Director Corey Johnson said officers were called to the premises because of a welfare concern.
“As officers determined the individual was intoxicated they then tried to check the property for any safety concern and were turned away. When such an instance happens, officers do their best to secure the perimeter,” Johnson said.
Law enforcement officers warned nearby residents to stay inside their homes, as the man was reportedly firing shots on the west side of town.
A hostage negotiator was called on to help get the man to surrender into custody.
“After making contact with the individual within the house, the individual proceeded to contact officers and an arrest was made,” Johnson said.
A SWAT team from College Station assisted Navasota police officers, Department of Public Safety and the Grimes County Sheriff’s Office at the scene and from a nearby staging area located inside The Dollar General parking lot.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
