VFW Parade and Celebration organizers are working to have one of the largest Veterans Day events in recent years.

“Besides Navasota VFW Post 4006, numerous other veterans groups from surrounding areas have committed to participating, which will make Navasota’s Veterans Day Celebration even more special this year,” Veterans Services Officer Steve Seymour said.

Veterans Day in Navasota will be celebrated on Saturday, Nov. 9, starting with a parade led by Navasota VFW Post 4006 Color Guard at 10:30 a.m. The parade will be on Washington, starting at Brosig Street and continuing through the downtown area.

Among the participating veterans groups are: The Patriot Guard Riders; The Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association; VFW Post 4692 Motorcycle Group of Bryan; American Legion Post 159 Riders from Bryan; Brazos Valley Marine League, Chapter 1391; The Vietnam Veterans of America, Brazos Valley, Chapter 937; Brenham VFW Post 4458; American Legion Post 629 riders from Coldspring/Camilla; and the Knights on Bikes from the Austin Diocese. Other veterans groups have also indicated an interest to participate.

The Iola High School Marching Band will perform in the parade and the Diamonettes dance team will do a performance on Washington Avenue, in the downtown area. The Grimes County Mounted Posse will finish the parade.

After the parade, there will be entertainment at Navasota VFW Post 4006, at 1575 West Washington off State Highway 105. Entertainment will include a live performance by “HI FI Band”, a five piece band from Bryan/College Station that will be playing classic rock songs from the 1960s and 70s.

The band will perform from 1 to 5 p.m., following a barbecue plate lunch, which begins at 11 a.m. Beer, wine coolers and sodas will be available.

Ongoing entertainment includes a raffle, silent auction and 50/50 tickets.

Tricked out motorcycles and classic autos will be on display in the parking lot.

“Due to the numerous veterans groups from out of town attending this event, the VFW Post is anticipating a large turn-out for this year’s Navasota Veterans Day Celebration,” Seymour said.

Meal and raffle tickets are available at the Grimes County Chamber of Commerce or call 936-825-3666 or 936-870-5013.
