THRALL — The Iola Lady Bulldogs finished 2-1 in the Thrall tournament from Thursday, Nov. 30, to Saturday, Dec. 2.

The Lady Bulldogs started off the tournament on Thursday with a 42-40 win over Bruceville-Eddy, but fell to Milano later the same day in a nail-biter game 42-43.

On Saturday, the Lady Bulldogs finished the weekend with a 37-26 win over Port Aransas.

“I think the rest of the year is going to go very well because, even with the youth on our team, we have a lot of hard workers and determined learners and players, and only having one senior this year to give us that extra push makes the lower-classmen even more determined,” stated junior Hannah Brockett.

The leading scorers for the Iola Lady Bulldogs were #12 junior Landry Cunningham with 47 points, 13 rebounds and three steals, followed by #13 Emmy Webb with 29 points, six rebounds and six steals. Jessika Fairbanks also scored for Iola and had 17 rebounds, and freshman Cadence Hoyle with 10 rebounds and three steals.

“I’m super excited for the upcoming year,” stated Cunningham. “We have a lot of fight and drive in our team this year, especially from such a young team. I’m really looking forward to the rest of the season.”

The Iola Lady Bulldogs will be playing in the Centerville tournament next starting Thursday, Dec. 7, going through Saturday, Dec. 9.

The Iola boys basketball team will be starting their season in Leon on Tuesday, Dec. 5, and then continue their week in the Franklin tournament starting on Thursday, Dec. 7.
