There was a special memorial service held at Lake Grove Cemetery Thursday, Sept. 14, for Elton L. Gomillion. He diedAug. 1, 1943 during World War II. For all those years his body was lost. Some of his family gave DNA samples and he was identified. He was the son of Joseph John “Joe” and Tennie Davis Gomillion and was buried beside them.

Read moreSunday, Sept. 10 was a special day in our household. It was 25 years ago that day in 1998 when Don was appointed as the new Grimes County Sheriff. He had been asked to put his name in the hat for the appointment so after much discussion with family Don decided to take the dive. He was on duty at Harris County Sheriff’s Office when he got a call from the county saying a special Commissioner’s Court would be in session that afternoon to decide who would be appointed. That particular week he had put in 25 years with Harris County. Little did he know at that time that he would be the Sheriff of Grimes County the next 25 years of his life.

One couple ordered and shortly afterwards, the young man came back to order another sandwich.Another customer asked how to help, and we discussed her joining. We were done fairly early this time and there were no buns left and only about 2-3 pounds of meat.
Read moreThe Keith Civic Club monthly meeting was held a week later due to work being done on the Keith Community Center. The meeting began with a covered dish meal that was enjoyed by all present. The new sign in front of the building was certainly admired by all. Work done on the ceiling really looks good. Lots of work has been done and there is still work that needs to be done.
