Navasota Garden Club presented the December Yard of the Month to Raul and Juana Urbana for their home at 105 Willow Court in the Heritage Meadows subdivision. The yard features Tiplant, Chaste tree, Yaupon, Chinese Holly, Oriental Holly, Eastern Red Cedar, Lantana and Snake plant.

Foster children from Grimes County will sleep a little warmer thanks to the Charm and Sewing 4-H Chapter of Grimes County Extension Service. Dozens of fringe blankets, made by children from 1118, were donated to the Grimes County Child Welfare Board Rainbow Room Nov. 22.

Planning began when Mark Walz asked me if I would help coordinate a White Hall 150-Year Celebration because he thought this special time should not be overlooked. He invited Pat Dunaway, and I asked Leslie Long and Debbie Addicks to join. With no budget and no bank account, our ideas became reality with the help of many people.

Ever since I could remember as a child, we always had Thanksgiving dinner in Dobbin at the home of my grandparents John and Rosa Herzog. They are both deceased now, and my Uncle Darrell Herzog lives in that home and has continued to carry on the tradition of Thanksgiving dinner each year. He has even perfected his mother’s dressing recipe and it is the best.
