The community responded to assist the needs of Anderson VFD at their annual steak dinner fundraiser at the St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church Fellowship Hall April 22. Hundreds attended the dinner, purchased raffle tickets and bid at the auction.

In honor of Mother’s Day, Navasota Public Library will host a special book reading and signing May 1, with award-winning children’s author Shanalee Sharboneau. The recent Navasota resident has been featured on numerous television and radio shows. Her books have been recognized by former First Lady Laura Bush, the President of Ireland Michael Higgins and others. Among her numerous national and international awards is the Royal Dragonfly Book Award for Best Children’s Picture Books age five and under.

Voting 3-0, council approved Resolution 734-23 opposing special districts, including Municipal Utility Districts, in the City of Navasota and its extraterritorial jurisdiction (ETJ). Councilman Grant Holt was absent and council member Pattie Pederson was not present for this vote.

During the April 19 meeting, commissioners approved a contract with MBC Management in Navasota for the design and build of a multitenant office building. Funding for the project comes from American Rescue Plan Act funds.
Grimes County Attorney Jon C. Fultz said the design/build contract is new to him.
