COLLEGE STATION – Three men, including two from Navasota, were arrested by College Station Police Thursday, Sept. 22, after nine stolen catalytic converters were discovered during a traffic stop. College Station Police said all nine stolen catalytic convertors were from Toyota Tundra’s. Drevonne Bell, 22 of Houston, was charged with theft of property; failing to identify/giving false information and he also has four outstanding warrants from other counties. He is being held in Brazos County Jail on $400,000 bond.

Anderson-Shiro Education Foundation hosted their annual fundraising dinner Saturday, Sept. 24, at St. Stanislaus Church in Anderson. Since the foundation was formed, $196,948.37 has been distributed in grants to provide various educational learning tools and programs to teachers for their classrooms.

Commissioners approved the request of Election Administrator Lucy Ybarra to employ young adult workers within the Grimes County Elections and Voter Registration departments through school-approved programs. The participants ages 16-18 would be solicited from all four Grimes County school districts - Anderson-Shiro, Iola, Navasota and Richards.
Read moreGRIMES COUNTY – Beginning Tuesday, Oct. 4, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT’s) contractor will begin a traffic switch for the next phase of the Texas State Highway 6/ Farm-to-Market 2 overpass project. This switch will close the crossover in the intersection and only right turns to or from FM 2 will be possible. A detour route will be signed for diverted FM 2 traffic (attached) to use SH 6 crossovers north and south of FM 2. This traffic switch will also reduce SH 6 through the project to one lane in each direction, separated by concrete barrier. This phase of work is to replace the southbound SH 6 Beason Creek bridge and is expected to last approximately 8 months.
