Grimes County Commissioners Court moved one step closer to a new fiscal year and new tax rate at the Wednesday, Aug. 17, meeting. Judge Joe Fauth’s motion proposing a tax rate not to exceed $0.48/$100 valuation was approved by a 5-0 record vote. During discussion, Fauth’s recommended proposed tax collection rate of 98% was revised to 98.4% to allow the addition of four staff positions.

Read moreAfter a lengthy Budget Workshop, Grimes County Commissioners held a Special Meeting, Monday, Aug. 22, and arrived at terms and figures for the preliminary draft of the final 2022-2023 budget. They approved a proposed tax rate of $0.48/$100 valuation, increasing the anticipated percentage of taxes collected from 96.5% to 97.12%, and adding two clerical positions. One clerk is slated for the Tax Assessor/ Collector’s office and the other for the Grimes County Sheriff’s Office. Commissioner Chad Mallett was absent.
