Navasota Grimes County Chamber of Commerce hosted a groundbreaking ceremony Nov. 3, for Candlewood Suites. AAKAS LLC owned by the Patel family are bringing the new hotel to town. The hotel, located off of the Texas 6 northbound feeder next to Comfort Inn, will have 59 extended stay suite rooms and small rooms. There will also be a large outdoor patio with a barbeque grill. Construction is anticipated to take 7-8 months for completion.

The Proclamation pointed out that “more people come in contact with municipal courts than all other Texas courts combined and public impression of the Texas judicial system is largely dependent upon the public’s experience in municipal court.”

Read morePLANTERSVILLE Law enforcement are investigating an early Sunday morning shooting on Foxfire Drive in Plantersville that killed one. Grimes County Lt. James Racus said the shooting occurred just after 1 a.m. Oct, 29, during a party at the residence. The details of the shooting are still being investigated, but Racus said 34-year-old Kelley Jernigan Jr. of Plantersville died at the scene.
