Marcus and Jamie Noto were the proud recipients of Navasota Garden Club’s Yard of the Month award for August. Their home on 906 E. Milroy Street features a front yard with rock lined beds filled with ornamental grass, flowering Periwinkles, garden mums, day lilies, Iris and caladiums. Shade trees, Magnolia trees and boxwood hedges add balance to the yard. The side yard features Crepe Myrtles and a rock lined bed filled with knockout roses, yellow roses and a variety of flowering lovelies. The backyard consists of beds filled with Rosemary, Jasmine vines and a Tulip tree. Various containers with blooms complete the look.

Grimes County Commissioners Court held a Regular Meeting Wednesday, July 22, but viewing the meeting was anything but regular. In this COVID-19 era of limited gatherings, court has been available via Facebook Live, but technical issues and staff absences because of virus exposure prevented viewing and recording Wednesday. Grimes County Judge Joe Fauth, however, took matters into his own hands by later posting a 22-minute recap of the 2 hour, 25 minute meeting on the Grimes County Courthouse Facebook page.

It has been a long rocky road, but Navasota finally bid farewell to the class of 2020 with four graduations spreading over three days, Thursday, July 23, Friday, July 24 and two on Saturday, July 25. The community rallied around the graduates who dawned facemasks, practiced social distancing and watched the Valedictorian and Salutatorian speeches on the new jumbo screen at Rattler Stadium.
