At the May 8 Special Meeting Workshop of the Navasota City Council, the green light was given to proceed with drilling one and possibly two new water wells on the City’s developing east side. A new water well is part of the $2 million Capital Improvement Project approved during this fiscal year to meet the City’s long-term needs. See related article page 1.

Francine’s is owned by Gary and Frances Spivey, located at 21155 CR 124 in Iola. The soft opening and ribbon cutting was by invitation only, with Dylan Ault providing acoustic music. Grand opening will be Saturday, May 20, feature the Gatlin Brothers.

ANDERSON – Voters in Anderson-Shiro Consolidated Independent School District rejected Proposition A, a $44.5 million bond, by 222 votes. The proposed bond would have allowed the district to accommodate current needs and plan for projected growth. A facility review committee evaluated current facilities within the district highlighting imminent needs. They presented their findings to the Board of Trustees who elected to place Proposition A on the ballot for voters to decide.
Read moreIn an emotional, heartfelt, special meeting, Navasota Independent School District Board of Trustees unanimously approved a new salary scale that will be a “life changer” for NISD teachers.
Navasota ISD has historically lost teachers to larger districts who are able to pay higher salaries, with approximately half of them going to neighboring districts to the north – Bryan and College Station ISD’s. The board approved the proposed pay scale which gives teachers across the board at least a 10% salary increase.

Read moreSHIRO - A suspect with active warrants picked up a felony offense while attempting to elude Grimes County Constables Thursday morning. Around 10:30 a.m., April 20, Grimes County Constable Pct. 1, Dale Schaper and Deputy Constable James Ellis attempted to stop Michael Victor Briock II near Texas 30 and CR 229, for active arrest warrants. The suspect reportedly fled northbound on CR 229 before turning onto CR 239. Briock drove into an open gate and through a pasture before initially crashing his vehicle through a gate. Constable Schaper said intentionally causing damage to a fence or gate that houses livestock is an automatic felony offense.
