Grimes County 4-H Star Award applications are due to the Grimes County Extension Office by Thursday, June 30. Interviews are scheduled Thursday, July 7. A signup link will be sent after June 30.

The Ag Olympics oneday youth camp is July 21, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Grimes County Ag Extension Office, 205 Veterans Memorial Drive in Navasota. The camp is open to all youth ages 8-18. You don’t have to be enrolled in 4-H or even know what 4-H is. The camp will provide fun, educational competitions to teach youth about agriculture. Just a reminder Grimes County, there is a burn ban in effect. Due to the lack of ticket sales, the Plantersville Stoneham VFD voted to postpone the gun raffle until the Aug. 8, board meeting. The raffle includes a true to Henry’s 1860 patterns and patents Lever Toggle Link Action .45 Colt centerfire rounds and a reproduction of Colt SAA Model Peacemaker in .45 Long Colt. The winner will receive both guns and two boxes of .45 Long Colt Ammo. Anyone interested in purchasing tickets can contact BOD President Deen Miller, 936-524-1700.

The City of Navasota is hosting the third annual Freedom Festival Friday, July 1, in downtown Navasota. The event will include the annual Fourth of July Parade, live music, fireworks, and family fun. The parade will begin at 6 p.m. at Brosig Avenue and will travel west on Washington Avenue to 9th Street. Participation in the parade is free and does not require registration. Participants can begin lining up at 5 p.m. on Brosig Avenue. The Brown Sugar Band will take the stage outside of Navasota City Hall at 7 p.m., and vendors will be on site for food and beverage purchase. Fireworks will begin at 9:30 p.m. and will be launched by Brule Field. Fireworks may be viewed downtown or at Brule Field. Gates will open at 8 p.m.

Youth Gala Night is Saturday, July 9, from 4-8 p.m. at The Place of Grace, 8658 CR 313 in Plantersville. For more information contact Apostle Greenwood, 936-672- 5192. Tickets are $20 per couple and $10 for singles. This is a formal attire event.
