BBQ sale a success

Parades, holiday parties, shopping, decorating, baking, wrapping and many more preparations are happening around us. We are all so blessed to be living in a country that allows us this freedom. Another freedom is attending a church of your choice. I would encourage all of you to remember why Dec. 25 is important to us. Many churches in our county offer services on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. It was very humbling to have my adult grandson talk about “our tradition” of Christmas Eve service. This is my merry Christmas and happy New Year blessings to each of you.

For the Whitehall community, I am aware there will be services at both Lynn Grove UMC and Salem Lutheran on Christmas Eve. Salem has theirs at 7:30 p.m.

The first Saturday was a success again. We sold a lot of barbecue by the pound. We had buns remaining but no meat. Thanks again to all our repeat customers and the new ones who stopped by simply because they heard about us.

It is my understanding Whitehall Café is expanding. Congratulations on your success also. Hopefully, Melanie will heal quickly from her injury this past weekend. Get well!

I was glad to see Mike Kurtin feeling better Saturday. He is our “do anything” guy at the barbecue sales.

Basketball this week took me and my bestie Sandra to Iola which is her old stomping grounds but the kids playing are much younger than her grandchildren and us for sure. My granddaughter Bree showed a lot of competitiveness. I bet the girl that kicked her on purpose while on the floor is still limping. Yep, she did it; she kicked back. I have always heard the girls play rougher and that was true. The good thing is that her youth basketball coach was happily saying that he taught her those moves. I’m not sure I would have admitted that information.

Abbreviated schedule for Lynn Grove UMC for Dec.:

Advent services Dec. 22, 24, and 29. All services begin at 9 a.m. with exception of Dec. 24, which begins at 3 p.m.

Back to baking. My baker’s knee is not liking this. Oh well, it is all worth it in the end.

Our sick and homebound friends include Sue Kolojaco, Lawrence Lieder, Dorothy Mahaffey, Mary Bauer, Albin Finke, Rosa Finke, Lois Bell, Leon Gorney, Doug Taylor, Garry Wise, Kathy Cave Wells, Glenn Binder, Pauline Kaspar and Alexander Hanna, grandson of Curtis and Darla Kolojaco. Please add these friends to your prayer list.
