Benefit cookoff planned for White Hall

I found the most beautiful bluebonnet field. It is on the right going towards William Penn, FM 390, and it is solid blue. When I first noticed it, I thought about stopping, but there is not much space to park, and I was running late. Near Kettler Road there was a field of orange and then when you get to the outskirts of Somerville, there is one part on the side of Hwy 36 that is mostly pink wildflowers with blue, orange and yellow wildflowers sprinkled throughout.

This does not mean I do not see beautiful areas in Grimes County because the place that is always filled with flowers is the property around the White Hall Community VFD. Yes, there are signs for “no trespassing” as it is private property. However, that does not take away from the beauty God has created.

The trip to the baseball game was very pretty but I cannot say that about the game. Bean pitched again and he does need practice, but unfortunately the other pitchers are also lacking experience. I am just happy my two grandkids, Bree and Bean, always thank me for coming.

Salem Lutheran Fish Fry is March 24, at White Hall Community Center, 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. Onsite dining and carryout available. Tickets are $15 each and can be purchased ahead of time or at the door. Hope to see you there.

White Hall Community Birthday Bash is April 22 and includes a car show and chicken barbecue plates. More information to come.

Do you enjoy a good cook-off?  Don from the Whitehall Icehouse has information on Facebook regarding his challenge.  Per Don, “Hey Guys, This is for a great cause.  If you think you have what it takes, sign up and show us.  We have a few great teams already and it would be nice to see a few more.”  April 28-29 is the date for this event.  You can message him via FB to get your team entered.

Salem Sonshine Sisters keep entertaining each other every time they meet.  We can tease each other about forgetting whose turn it is, placing dominoes in the wrong spot and anything else.  We enjoy the fellowship, discussing politics, alerting each of people who are ill and need prayers and actually getting somewhat silly for our generation.  Aunt Pauline was the grand winner today and she was proud!

The Grimes VFW Post 4006 Auxiliary had a good March business meeting.  We had numerous topics to discuss and have several projects in the works.  If you are an auxiliary member and have an extra few minutes to come to our meetings, we would love to see you.

I received a special request from a friend of Rayburn “Butch” Gerke.  Butch and his family are from Navasota but moved away later in life.  The request is for a huge happy birthday wish to Butch as his 76th birthday will be on March 30.  Butch, I will let you guess who sent this message!  A side note; my dad’s mother was a Gerke!

Please add our sick and homebound friends to your prayer

list.  These friends include Jean Fleischhauer, Sue Kolojaco, Mary Bauer, Rosa Finke, Mary Whatley, Billie Wittenbach, Alexander Hanna, Troy Weigand, Shawn Welch, Kimberly Weiser, Bib Kapchinski, Delores Mitschke, Charlotte Serres, Loyd Finke, Mark Shimshack and Betty Feldmann.

Upcoming Birthdays and Anniversaries:

March 26 – Madison Kettler; March 27 – Alice Mock; March 28 – Jacob Butler; March 30 – Charles Cavanaugh, Brandon Finke; March 31 – Cherie Bauer, Joseph Davis, Samantha Serres.  Congratulations to each of you!
