Bikers Against Child Abuse

Do you know what BACA means? Well, I didn’t until recently. This stands for Bikers Against Child Abuse. I had the opportunity to meet the president of the group that supports Grimes, Brazos, Burleson and Washington counties. Often times bikers are stereotyped as “bad.” I think we could say the same here because this group can be “bad” to the offenders as they protect those children who have been abused. I have always heard that you are never too old to learn.

The Awards Banquet at the VFW Post was good with a fantastic turnout. The Queen of Hearts game was not that well attended and there was no winner, but several post members were there to help so I had fun. The 50/50 game is played on Friday at the Whiskey Tango located at the corner of CR 302 and 304 beginning at 7 p.m. until 10 p.m. The profits are used to assist Grimes County veterans.

Hopefully, I will be able to understand some karate moves in the future. Chucky tries to explain but my old brain just does not get it. KickStart had a tournament on Saturday at the junior high gym with several surrounding schools being invited. Although his demo team did not score high enough for a trophy, Chucky was okay. Actually, he missed most of school this past week because he was sick. It’s all good. Perhaps next time he will do better. Hopefully, he can perform solo soon.

Don’t forget, April 25 is the fifth birthday bash for the Whitehall Community Center. There will be a car show, barbeque chicken plates, live music and our famous bucket raffle items. If you have something to donate for the raffle, just let a member know. There are also sponsorships if you are interested in assisting with renovations and updates to the hall. Members are encouraged to help if at all possible. Donating a dessert would be good too.

I would like to apologize to the Serres family for not including Mrs. Violet Serres in my prayer list last week. Currently, she is recuperating from surgery and I am requesting prayers for her.

In addition, please keep Ms. Pauline Kaspar in your prayers. She is experiencing additional medical issues and we are praying for her speedy recovery. The Sonshine Sisters need her challenging game plan to come back. I have been told that she is improving daily.

Mayor Charlie and family have all been sick with the flu. Seems like we have many sick community members, but we will sure add the McMillan family to our list for prayers. I saw Chad this week and they are getting better.

Laurie Shine was under the weather as well, but she has returned to work. The Shines also have another grandson in the family. These grandchildren are all boys, except for one granddaughter. I would be willing to bet that Grandpa John has fun with that!

My neighbor, Kathy Cave Wells, has completed her chemo treatments and is waiting to have her surgery. She would be happy to have you include her on your prayer list.

We continue to keep our sick and homebound friends on our prayer list. These friends include Sue Kolojaco, Lawrence Lieder, Dorothy Mahaffey, Mary Bauer, Rosa Finke, Lois Bell, Leon Gorney, Doug Taylor, Garry Wise, Kathy Cave Wells, Glenn Binder, Pauline Kaspar, Michelle Guajardo, sister of Billy Robbins, and Alexander Hanna, grandson of Curtis and Darla Kolojaco. Please add these friends to your prayer list.
