As I sit here trying to write news, I drew a total blank. I would love to have a reason for this, but it could very well just be the old age.

Several members of Salem Lutheran Church enjoyed a nice potluck meal after church. The confirmands met again and the VBS staff held a brief meeting to prepare for Monday. We have had a very small group of children in attendance but one on one is always a good thing. I am a floater and sometimes get caught with Debbie Addicks looking at all the photos on the wall and try to determine who the young children are. Then we make time to clean up the kitchen for the next day.

As a reminder, the Flight Lounge at the VFW Post 4006 has new hours. They now open 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday, but the hours are extended to 10 p.m. on Tuesday and 11 p.m. on Fridays. The Lounge will be closed Sunday and Monday. Free Bingo is still on Tuesday beginning at 5:30 p.m. and the cornhole tournament begins after that.

After seeing posts on Facebook, it looks like the cornhole tournaments at the Post are going good. Maybe I should take up the sport because some of the winning competitors were holding dollar bills!

The WHCVFD met Monday for their monthly business meeting with 15 members and one guest present. Several topics were discussed to include the BBQ sales, new training for the firefighters, equipment and county concerns. If you are interested in becoming a member, please come. Our normal business meetings are at 7 p.m. the first Monday of each month at the station.

There will be an inside/out side crafts show at the VFW Post on July 30. If you are interested in securing a spot, please message Commander Reed, commander@grimescountyvfw4006.org or you can email me for the information.

My longtime friend, John Williams, has a birthday July 26. If you see him or contact him, please wish him a good day. I am sure that he would enjoy the message.
