Members of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church are planning and preparing a Christmas Eve meal to be served Saturday, Dec. 24 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at their parish hall, 1511 Hwy. 90 in Anderson. We are trying to spread the word out that this meal is open to area community members. You don’t have to be Catholic to join us for the meal. It is open to the public. The delicious lunch will be served in the hall for you to enjoy and visit with others or we can deliver meals to you if you reside in the Anderson area. We are also reaching out to schools, nursing homes, senior centers, etc. For more information or questions, contact me, 936-870-6842.

The Knights of Columbus Council #4054 is winding up another successful year of helping others. Here are a few of their accomplishments this year: they began this year with a patriotic rosary on Jan. 1 and another on Nov. 6; 12 council meetings and 10 social meetings were held; three fish fry dinners during Lent; six blood drives; 13 pancake breakfasts; conducted a very successful Sporting Clay event; co-hosted a Clergy Appreciation dinner; supported surrounding church bazaars; presented scholarships to six deserving students; supported 10 seminarians in the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston; sold tamales; held a raffle for their charitable programs; painted the interior of the KC Hall; and provided funding for a new electronic sign. The list continues to grow each year.

Congratulations to November’s Knight of the Month Rick Atkinson and Family of the Month, James and Patricia Moran. And don’t forget, the KC Hall and Pavilion are open for rentals. For information on rentals, contact James Moran, 936-306-9663.

We are saddened by the loss of a nearby neighbor, Larry Isbell, husband of Joanne Briers Isbell, who passed away in the early morning hours of Sunday, Dec. 18. Don and I loved visiting with Larry who was quite the character. He recently bought a bright and shiny red 1940 Classic Ford truck that he entered in the Don Sowell Classic car show on Main St. and was looking forward to entering more car shows with it. Our thoughts and prayers go out to this family for strength as they face difficult times ahead in dealing with their loss. At the time of this writing, arrangements are pending with Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan.

Our family wishes each and every one a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous New Year.
