Church enjoys fellowship, fish fry

The membership of the Evergreen Free Will Baptist Church enjoyed a time of fellowship over breakfast Sunday, Feb. 3, prior to the morning worship services. A meal of all sorts of good eats were enjoyed by those present.

•The membership of Evergreen Free Will Baptist Church will be having a fish fry Saturday, Feb. 16, to raise money for the church kids to go to camp this summer. The event will be held at the Iola Volunteer Fire Department building. The head cook will be James Ray Trant and his helpers. The event will start at 5 p.m. and continue until 7 p.m. There will also be a silent auction of all sorts of baked goods and other items. Do make plans to attend and help support the Evergreen kids. Hope to see you there.

•The monthly meeting of the Orphans Friend Masonic Lodge No. 17 was held at their lodge hall Monday, Feb. 4, in Anderson with a good number of members and visitors in attendance. The meal that was served at 6 p.m. was enjoyed by all. During the regular meeting, a variety of business was discussed and acted upon.

•Mark and Kimann England, two of our Keith residents, made the trip to the Super Bowl in Atlanta, Georgia, to see the game. Sad to say their team lost, but they had a good trip in spite of the disappointment.

•Graveside services were held Thursday afternoon, Feb. 7, in Evergreen Cemetery for Harry Laughlin, who passed away last year June 25, 2018. He was born June 18, 1925. He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Kinard Laughlin, who died Nov. 20, 2008. His ashes were buried beside the grave of his wife. The date of his service would have been that of their wedding anniversary. The service was held by the Rev. Jeff Morgan, pastor of the Evergreen Free Will Baptist Church. There was also a ceremony by the U.S. Navy, as he was a Navy sailor. Do remember his children and other family members in your prayers.

•The weather change Thursday, Feb. 7, was really something. It was around 72 degrees when I got up around 7 a.m. and by 3 p.m. it had dropped to 52 degrees. How about that?

•Happy birthday this week to the following: Bradley Langford and Carol Kay Trant Labay, Feb. 11; D.D. Davis, Gracie Topping Pedretti, Jeffrey Randell Trant, Carlton Wheeler Trant Jr., Ella Nora Luch Flynt and Debbie Barney, Feb. 13; Diana Compian Morgan and Mary Jane Williams Scroggins, Feb. 14; Mary Jo Limas, Bernard Chesnutt and Anthony Robbins, Feb. 15; and Dianne Simmons, Danita High and Katie Dixon, Feb. 16. Do hope that your special day was a happy one.
