Funeral services for our neighbor, David Joe Moore, were held at Connecting Point Church in College Station Saturday, May 13, with a full house of family and friends present. He was born Oct. 3, 1943 in California, the son of Joseph Isaac and Nola Mae Thornhill Moore. He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Jenni Ann Foster, and four children. David lived a life of service, learning and educating. His pastor Jason DeVerna conducted the service. There were many that spoke during the service. The Orphans Friend Masonic Lodge, which he was a member, was in charge of the close of the service. Clyde Collins lead the closing with 11 members present. Refreshments were served following the service. Remember his wife, children and other family members in your prayers.

Keith Civic Club will have their monthly meeting at Keith Community Center Thursday, May 25. The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a covered dish meal followed by their business meeting. Among the items to discuss are much needed repairs to the inside of the building. Thanks to the recent money raised this should be possible. All are welcome to attend.

Hope everyone that has a mother living honored her on Mother’s Day. All area churches honored their mothers in some way that day. Evergreen Baptist Church gave out cookies with the inscription mothers to each of them. God bless all mothers and their family members.

I was recently in the Allen Family Cemetery in the Piedmont Community and saw two new tombstones have been placed. They are for Jim Bob Allen Trant, June 14, 1982 Jan. 12, 2021. He was the son of Bud and Janice Allen Trant who are also buried there. The second tombstone is for James P. Jim Allen Jr. – Feb. 27, 1936 – July 30, 2019. He was the son of James P. Sr. and Lorane Allen who are also buried there. May their memories all be blessed. I also saw the Piedmont Springs historical marker which has been replaced by Billy Smith for the Grimes County Historical Commission. It was good to see it back in place.

We certainly had a good rain during the week. FM 244 south of Carlos was underwater for several hours until around 10 a.m. then was reopen to traffic. I haven’t heard of any other roads that received that much rain.

Happy birthday this week to the following: May 21 – Winita Dale Goerner, David Parra; May 22 – Cathy Williamson; May 23 – Elissa Perez; May 25 – Sandra Jean Trant; May 26 – Katherine Kathy Ann Noble Martin, Jamie Sue Altimore; May 27 – Brody Michael Rice, Chloe Vaughn, Mark Niven, Jake Mitts. Do hope your special day was a happy one.
