Collecting food and monetary donations

A ribbon cutting for the Grimes Health Resource Center Community Clothes Closet was held Thursday, May 11. Grimes County Chamber of Commerce members and Ambassadors, City of Navasota Councilmembers, GHRC Board Members, The Examiner and Navasota Chief of Police Mike Mize were present for the Grand Opening. The Clothes Closet, 210 Judson St., officially opened May 15, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Food supplies at the Christian Community Center Food Pantry, 814 N Lasalle Street in Navasota, have been lower than normal this year. Community or church donations are accepted during regular pantry hours of Monday, Tuesday or Thursday, 9 a.m. - noon. Food items needed most are peanut butter and jelly, canned goods (meats, vegetables, fruit, soup, chili), spaghetti noodles and sauce, macaroni and cheese, tuna and hamburger helper, instant mashed potatoes, one- pound bags of beans and rice, breakfast cereal, evaporated or powdered milk and cornbread mix. Several of the newly elected officers from Grimes County VFW Post 4006 and Auxiliary met to discuss plans for the upcoming year. As we move forward, I would like to encourage members to come to our meetings. The Post and Auxiliary would enjoy having you attend. Monthly business meetings are the third Thursday of the month beginning with a meal at 6:30 p.m. and the meetings at 7:30 p.m.

The Salem Ladies Circle met May 10, for their monthly business meeting. Several of the group attended the Bible Study held prior to the meeting. The meeting was good with several topics discussed including the needs of the Christian Community Center. The ladies will begin collecting food items and monies to assist the center.

White Hall community residents are welcome to attend White Hall Community VFD business meetings the first Monday of the month beginning at 7 p.m. at the station.

Please add our sick and homebound friends to your prayer list. These friends include Lois Bell, Jean Fleischhauer, Sue Kolojaco, Mary Bauer, Rosa Finke, Mary Whatley, Billie Wittenbach, Alexander Hanna, Troy Weigand, Shawn Welch, Delores Mitschke, Glenn Binder, Randy and Ruby Siebe and Betty Feldmann.
