Costello, Bradicich named Iola Homecoming Royalty

Area friends of Houston Ray Dirickson Jr. were sorry to learn of his death Saturday, Oct. 5, after a brief illness. He was born Friday, Oct. 13, 1963, the son of Houston Ray Dirickson Sr. and Mylida Adell Erwin Dirickson. His funeral was held at Evergreen Baptist Church Saturday, Oct. 19, with several speaking in his memory.

He was survived by his wife Kathy, brother John and wife Mollie and several other family members. A meal was served following the service. His remains will be buried at the Evergreen Cemetery at a future date. He was a good man and had several friends. Do remember his wife and other family members in your prayers.

The Iola Homecoming game was held Friday, Oct. 18. Iola played the Chilton Pirates but came up short in the loss. Clayton Costello and Hannah Bradicich were crowned homecoming king and queen. Congratulations to both. David Chaney who was injured by a bull last month attended the game. He was in a wheelchair but is slowly recovering. It was good to see him. Please remember him in your prayers.

Area friends of Ruth Kolbasinski were informed of her death Sunday, Oct. 20, following a brief illness. Her funeral was held at Hillier Funeral Home in College Station and her burial was at St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery, the same cemetery where her husband Tony is buried. Remember to keep her family members in your prayers. More information will be in next week’s column.

All are invited to attend a Fall Fest celebration Wednesday, Oct. 30, at Evergreen Baptist Church. This event is for the entire family and will include carnival games, prizes, face painting, music and lots of tasty treats. Hope to see you there. The event will be from 6:30 p.m. till 8 p.m.

The monthly meeting of the Orphans Friend Masonic Lodge No. 17 will be Monday, Nov. 4, at their lodge hall in Anderson. The meeting will begin with a covered dish meal at 6 p.m. with the business meeting to follow. All Masons are invited to attend. The following night the members of the Bedias Masonic Lodge will have their meeting. The covered dish meal will be at 6:30 p.m. and the meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. All are invited to attend if you are a member of the Masons.

Do make plans to come out and vote at the Keith Community Center Tuesday, Nov. 5, and other polling places. They will be open from 7 a.m. till 7 p.m. Do your civic duty and vote. You may also vote at the Grimes County Courthouse. Call the voter registration office for a complete list of hours, 936-873-4424.

Evergreen Baptist Church has recently erected a new church sign at the intersection on FM 244 and CR 172. It really looks good. Be sure to take note of it when you drive by.
