Early voting begins

Well folks the time has come for early voting to begin. If you wish to vote early call the Grimes County Courthouse, 936-873-4424. Election day will be Tuesday, March 3. All polling places will be open including the one here in Keith at the Keith Community Center. This will be a big election including both local, state, and national elections. Make sure you cast your votes. If you don’t vote you have no right to complain, so do your civic duty.

Upcoming events in the area include the Fish Fry Fundraiser for the youth of Evergreen Baptist Church which will take place at the Iola Volunteer Fire Department Saturday, Feb. 22, at 5 p.m. The head cook will be James Ray Trant and his helpers. There will also be a silent auction of all sort of baked goods and other items. Make sure to come out and help the children raise money to attend church camp this summer. Hope to see you there.

The monthly meeting of the Iola-North Zulch Order of the Eastern Star No 458 will be at their lodge hall in North Zulch Monday, Feb. 24, at the Pyramid Masonic Lodge No 593. The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a covered dish meal. The food served will be chili with all the trimmings and desserts. All members of the Eastern Star are invited to attend. Following the meal will be the business meeting.

Area friends of Virginia Gail Pyle Walker were sorry to learn of her death Monday, Feb. 3, in Florida. She was the daughter of Roy Lee and Virginia Pyle. Do remember her loved ones in your prayers.

The monthly meeting of the Keith Civic Club is Thursday, Feb. 27. There will be the usual covered dish meal which will be at 6:30 p.m. All are invited to bring food and attend. Bring a little extra if you will. Following the meal at 7:15 p.m., there will be a political forum in which all who are running for office are invited to speak about the office for which they are seeking. Make plans to attend and hear them speak. Hope to see a record attendance as this is the big election for the year. On the Republican ballot there will be 10 positions on which to vote and on the Democratic ballot there will be 11 positions. Hope to see you there.
