How many enjoyed our first cold front? It’s beginning to feel like fall and is perfect weather for the Texas Renaissance. The Festival began Oct. 5 and runs through Dec.

1. Children get free admission on Sundays. Be careful in the traffic and around construction.

Early voting begins Monday, Oct. 21, to Friday, Nov. 1, for the Nov. 5 election. Visit the Grimes County website or call the voter registration office, 936-873-3100 for more details.

Thursday, Oct. 31, a fun time is planned at Plantersville Baptist Church from 7 p.m. till 9 p.m. Children ages 2-12 are invited for games, a pinata, bounce house, lots of candy, a costume contest and much more. Bring your friends and get treated not tricked. All children of all faiths are welcome. For more information visit the Plantersville Baptist Church on Facebook.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Take someone you love to get a mammogram. Remember men should get mammograms too.

Veterans needing flu shots can get a free flu vaccine at Walgreens until March 31, 2020. To receive the free vaccine, veterans need to have their Veterans Health ID card and have one other form of ID.

4-H News

National 4-H Week is Oct. 6 through 12.

• Charm and Sewing 4-H Club is having their annual blanket, quilt and afghans drive through Jan. 26, 2020. Contact Chyna Warren, 936-219-0619 or Freda Warren, 936-825-3850 for more information.

• The Junior Leadership Lab Expedition will be held at Carolina Creek Camp in Huntsville Nov. 8 and 9 for sixth through eighth-grade. Registration is $100 and is due by Oct. 16.

• The Plantersville Country Kickers 4-H Club meets the second Sunday of each month. Contact Sandra Kuta at sandrakuta@peoplepc.com.

• Texas 4-H Foundation is having a Christmas card contest. Submissions must be postmarked by Oct. 25. Proceeds will go toward the County Grant Program. Submit your design and you could be one of five students to win a $100 scholarship. The contest is open to 4-H members of all ages. Winning art will be used as the official 4-H Foundation Christmas Cards which will be available for purchase.

The fourth Annual Texas Star Holiday Bazaar in Magnolia will be held Saturday, Oct. 26, from 9 a.m. till 4 p.m. at Magnolia High School, 14350 FM 1488.

Bryan Downtown Festifall is Saturday, Nov. 9, from 10 a.m. till 3 p.m. in historic downtown Bryan.
