Fanthorp Stagecoach rides Saturday

St. Joseph’s Altar Society Stew Supper was a success as usual. The Knights of Columbus Council #4054 will hold their last fish fry of the Lenten season Friday, March 24 at the KC Hall in Anderson. Plate includes catfish, French fries, coleslaw, mac and cheese, dessert and drink will begin at 5 p.m. Come out and enjoy the evening sharing dinner with family and friends. Dine in or take-out plates are available. Price is $15 for adults and $10 for children under 12.

            

The Salem Lutheran Church will host a fish fry on Friday, March 24, at the White Hall Community Center, 5:30-7:30 p.m. You can dine inside or use take-out.  Cost is $15 per plate with all the fixings which includes catfish, French fries, coleslaw, hushpuppies, drinks and dessert. Please join them for a delicious fish meal.

 

Fanthorp Inn, 579 S. Main St. in Anderson, will host a focus weekend featuring H.K. Yoakum Saturday and Sunday March 25-26 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Henderson Yoakum is one of the notable Texans who stayed at Fanthorp Inn. Discover the story of this prominent Tennessee politician turned Texan historian and lifelong friend of Sam Houston. On Saturday only from 11 a.m.to 3 p.m. hop aboard the reproduction stagecoach for a ride down Main Street. The Texas Historical Commission presents Fanthorp Inn to you without admission fees but with a suggested donation of $4 ($10 w/coach ride) for adults and $2 ($5 w/coach ride) for children. April is American Legion Family Month and on Saturday, April 1, at 11 a.m., American Legion McCluskey Post 640 located in Anderson, will host all family members of veterans at a special gathering to recognize sacrifices that family members make their veterans services. The event will be held at 415 Hill Street in Anderson. There will be refreshments and camaraderie.

 

In addition to celebrating veterans’ family, they will reflect the contributions made by the American Legion Auxiliaries and the Sons of the American Legion and the impact those organizations have on every community across America. The American Legion McCluskey Post 640 is looking to revitalize the McCluskey Auxiliary Unit and establish a new Sons of the American Legion Squadron. Guest speakers will include myself, since I was the Past McCluskey Auxiliary Secretary/Treasurer and Ms. Leigh-Anne Stewart, Department of Texas Auxiliary Leadership Chair.

 

Auxiliary membership includes grandmothers, mothers, sisters, spouses, and direct and adopted female descendants of veterans eligible for American Legion membership. Sons of the American Legion members include males of all ages whose parents or grandparents served in the U.S. military and were eligible for American Legion membership.
