Gardens of Faithfulness Aug. 27

The WHCVFD met Monday for their monthly business meeting. Thirteen members were present. There wasn’t much on the agenda, so the meeting ended quick. On Aug. 9, Grimes County VFW Post 4006 has free Bingo beginning at 5:30 p.m. and cornhole through Grimes County Cornhole beginning around 7 p.m. Food will be available provided by the Post.

There is a benefit for Otis Greenwood Aug. 13, at the Plantersville-Stoneham VFD. The event will run from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. or until the food runs out. The following will be served: two meat plate $15; turkey leg $10; sausage on a stick $5. Only cash will be accepted. Otis is in the hospital recovering from surgery and the fundraiser is dedicated to assisting with medical expenses. On Aug. 20 a craft fair has been planned at the VFW Post. If you are interested, please call the Post, 936-825-3666 and leave a message for the Commander.

Navasota is hosting a free Seed Starting Class as part of their Gardens of Faithfulness series taught by Samuel Robinson. This hands-on training will be held Saturday, Aug. 27, from 10 am until noon.Anyone from the area is welcome to attend this free event. Topics to be covered are seed germination, seed start dates, soil preparation, seed trays, etc. Questions can be sent to uniongrove362@gmail.com; no RSVP needed.

There will be a potluck supper at the WHCVFD Monday, Aug. 29, beginning at 6 p.m. for all the firefighters, auxiliary and families. Sandwiches on first Saturday will be Sept. 3 and the business meeting is Sept. 12, since Labor Day is the first Monday of the month. I cannot believe school is just around the corner. My Somerville kids are already practicing their sports. There a several new coaches coming to town and I am excited to see what happens. Band camp is keeping Chucky on the move, too. Friday Night Lights will be here beginning this month.

Please continue to keep our sick and homebound friends on your prayer list.
