The Town of Anderson was incorporated for a short time from April 2, 1983 to April 7, 1984 at which time it was unincorporated. During that year, F.D. Calhoun served as Mayor of the town. When the town was incorporated once again January 1995, F.D. served as an Alderman under Mayor John Freeman until May 2003. He continued serving as Alderman under me, Gail Sowell, until December 2004 at which time he retired. On Mar. 9, 2020, F.D. will turn 85 years old. On Sunday, Mar. 1, his children threw him a surprise birthday party at the Anderson Community Center. F. D. was quite surprised but honored to see lots of family as well as old friends he hasn’t seen in quite a while. Before a dinner was served, family and friends expressed words of appreciation, friendship and love to F.D. Sheriff Don Sowell presented him with an “Honorary Sheriff of Grimes County” plaque as well as a Grimes County Sheriff’s challenge coin. Mayor Karen McDuffie presented him another plaque as “Honorary Mayor for the Day” as well as a Texas flag in a case that has been flying over the hall that holds the Mayor’s office. It was a special day for a very special man!

Geneva Sicinski, wife of the late Anton Sicinski, died Thursday, Feb. 27. Geneva and Anton were special to Don and I because when we got married at St. Stanislaus years ago, they were our sponsor couple. She was a very special lady that many will miss. She is survived by a host of children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, etc. At the time of this writing, arrangements were still pending.
