How many days do we have left to lose the pounds we put on this past week so we can be ready for all those Christmas parties, lunches and the big day itself. I’m not going to miss out on enjoying all the delicious food we get once a year. We have a whole year to take those pounds off before we do it all over again!

The Anderson-Shiro Elementary Kindness Club is holding a winter clothing drive Dec. 1-16. They are looking for new or gently used coats, scarves, socks and gloves. The drop-off location is the elementary front porch located at 458 FM 149 West. Don’t miss the deadline. Drop off items as soon as possible. The club will appreciative your kindness and generosity.

Anderson Food Pantry, 367 Fanthorp St. will be open on the first Thursday, Dec. 1 from 9 a.m. until noon. All residents of Grimes County in need of food may participate. For more information, contact Renee Fredwood, 936-873-5005.

Main St. will be a busy street this weekend in Anderson. On Sunday, Dec. 4 the Anderson Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting Ceremony will take place at 6 p.m. Parade entries will line up at the Justice Center at 5:30 p.m. Awards will be presented after the parade in front of the courthouse to various float categories including Best Antique Tractor, Best Antique Car, Best Mounted group, Best Organization float, Best Business float and Best Individual float. Events will also include the lighting of the Christmas tree as well as visits with Santa. This fun evening is sponsored by Anderson VFD, the Town of Anderson and Grimes County Sheriff’s Office. The Annual Jingle Bell Market will be held Saturday, Dec. 10 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Anderson-Shiro High School. Plan to come out and support over 30 local vendors. You are sure to find some special and unique Christmas gifts. Santa will be on hand for pictures. Breakfast and lunch will be available for purchase.

For those who have seen the Feed Store and the home of Joe and Beverly Gust come down in the last couple of weeks and are wondering what is going on, the owners of Ransom’s Steakhouse out of Montgomery, have brought those properties. They are preparing the site for another Ransom’s Steakhouse in our town. It is not clear yet if the old Anderson Hotel will be salvaged or not. Time will tell.
