Area residents were sorry to learn of the death of Rev. Bill Gene Adkisson who passed away Saturday, Feb. 11, at age 84. He was formerly the Pastor of Evergreen Free Will Baptist Church – which is now Evergreen Baptist Church. Adkisson was born July 3, 1938 to Rudolph and Alice Adkisson. He married Peggy Marshall and they spent many years of happiness together until she passed away Feb. 27, 2016. After they returned to Missouri, he was the Pastor of Evergreen for 7 years, from 1997-2004. They were owners of First Storage Facility in Iola until they moved away. His funeral was held Wednesday, Feb. 15. His burial was in the IOOF Cemetery in Charleston, MO. Do remember his children and other family members in your prayers.

Iola VFD’s annual BBQ Cookoff Fundraiser is March 17-18, at Iola Fire Station. There are lots of fun events planned to include a fried fish meal at 11 a.m. March 18. Other events include an auction with all sorts of baked goods and other items. Updates will be provided as the fundraiser approaches. Hope everyone will make plans to attend.

I attended the graveside service of William M. Bubba Dixon Jr. at Oakland Cemetery in Roans Prairie Saturday, Feb. 11. He was born March 23, 1927 to William and Fanny Poteete Dixon and passed away Feb. 1. Dixon was preceded in death by his wife, May S. Dixon, who died April 16, 2017 and he was buried beside her. His parents and other family members are buried there as well. My Aunt Mildred Dixon Maxwell, who was married to my Uncle Chris Curtis Maxwell, was his sister. My aunt is still living.  Do remember her and all of the family in your prayers.
