Keith Civic Club held their monthly meeting Thursday, Jan. 26, at the Keith Community Center with a good number attending. It was their first meeting of the year. The covered dish meal featuring a variety of good eats was enjoyed by all. There was even chili.

A variety of business was handled including the election of new officers, Bob Templeton was elected president; Rufus Mac McBride, vice president; Tammy Sanford secretary-treasurer; Tina Templeton and John Ray Maxwell, directors. The club also received a picture of Truitt and Ruby Stuckey to display in the building. There was also a final account of the money raised for the new roof on the building. Thanks to all that gave or raised money. God bless them all. The roof is completely paid for. A bake sale for the club will be held Saturday, April 8, and a garage sale will be held later.

Area residents were sorry to learn of the death of Pauline Lawson Langley who passed away Jan. 19, in Baytown. She was born July 3, 1942, the daughter of W.A. Buster and Cornine Lawson. She attended Iola High School. Her funeral was held at Shiro Baptist Church in Bedias and burial was in the Pankey Cemetery where her parents and other family members are buried. She was preceded in death by her husband. Do remember her children and other family members in your prayers.

The membership of Evergreen Baptist Church enjoyed a time of fellowship over breakfast in the church fellowship hall Sunday, Jan. 29, prior to the morning worship service. A meal with a variety of good eats was served. My favorite was the biscuits and sausage gravy. Everything else was good as well. Thanks to all who brought food and attended. Following the close of worship service communion was served in the church.

Several people I know are down with Coronavirus. Looks like this mess has returned. Do remember them in your prayers. At least three people in the Iola area have it and others in Brazos County as well. Just stay safe and secure.

Iola Schools started late Tuesday, Jan. 31, and closed Feb. 1, due to bad weather that was supposed to move into the area. There was no bad weather that I could see. Hopefully all will go well with our schools for the rest of the year. Do keep the school kids, teachers and employees in your prayers.

Employment Tax is due in April. Hope you will be ready. I have already sent my papers in and will get money back as well.

Happy birthday this week to the following: Feb. 5 – Paula Crenshaw, Levi Calhoun; Feb. 7 – Cheryl Lynn Finley, Valoriee, Jim Noa; Feb. 8 – Mike Johnson, James Wilson Gray, Lisa Longley; Feb. 9 – Daniel Perkins, Logan McKown; Feb. 11 – Bradley Langford, Jerry Lynn Dudley, Carol Kay Trant Labay.
