Keith Civic Club meeting Aug. 25

The annual meeting of the Martins Prairie Baptist Church Cemetery Association will have their Memorial Day Service Sunday, Sept. 4, at Martins Prairie Church beginning at 10:30 a.m. Anyone with a connection to either are invited to attend. The featured family will be the Davis Family. This family was supposed to be featured last year, but do to the death of a family member, it was canceled. There will also be a short business meeting and a short devotional by Brother David Strawn. Lunch will be served following the service. Donations to the work fund may be sent to Martins Prairie Baptist Church, care of Darlene Lavender, 14389 FM 244 Iola, Texas 77861.

I guess all Iola students have returned to school. Do hope that everything will go well and they will be safe this school year. School resumed Wednesday, Aug. 17. The monthly meeting of the Keith Civic Club will be held at the Keith Community Center Thursday, Aug. 25. The meeting will begin with a covered dish meal at 6:30 p.m. and will be followed by their business meeting. The need for a new roof will be discussed. If anyone would like to donate to the roofing project, call Bob, 979-229-3956 or Mac, 979-820-0104. Any assistance is appreciated.

Many area residents attended the funeral of Donna Kott Hejney, of Iola, Saturday, Aug. 13, at Shiro Baptist Church. The service was performed by her brother, Jay Kott. The church was filled with family members and friends who gathered to pay their respects. Following the service, a meal was served in the church fellowship hall. Do remember her loved ones in your prayers.

The birthdays of Rupus Mac McBride and John Ray Maxwell were celebrated Sunday, Aug. 14, at the McBride home. Family members and friends were present. A meal was served as well as birthday cake. A good time was enjoyed by all. Their birthdays were Aug. 16. They plan to have many more.

The pulpit at Evergreen Baptist Church was filled Sunday, Aug. 14, by Deacon Ed Costello, in the absence of the church pastor, Rev. Jeff Morgan. Morgan and his wife were out of town taking their daughter back to college. Costello did an excellent job as he always does.

Happy anniversary this week to: Dexter and Mary Macha Lavender, married Aug. 26, 1972. Join me in wishing them many more years of happiness together.
