lola Food Pantry helps many families

Area friends and family members of Clyde Donald Thomas, 88, were sorry to learn of his death Wednesday, June 8. He was born Aug. 18, 1934, the son of John and Ethel Kirby Thomas, on the family farm in Paint Creek. He and his family lived in a variety of places. He was married to Ann McFarlin and they became parents of four children. They both attended the Martins Prairie Cemetery Association meetings. He was preceded in death by his wife July 30, 2019 and was buried beside her in the Martins Prairie Cemetery. Do remember his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and other family members in your prayers.

The Iola Missionary Baptist Church had a wonderful Vacation Bible School. VBS began Sunday, June 12, through Thursday, June 16. The theme was “Spark Your Creativity” and was enjoyed by all that attended. There were an average of 65 children, and 71 the final day.

Iola Cemetery Association that oversees Zion and Enon Cemeteries, held their annual meeting at Zion United Methodist Church Saturday, June 18, with a small group in attendance. The group’s president, Charles Wendt, was in charge of the meeting. There was a variety of business handled, and the names of those who have died since last year were announced. They were: Margy Ann Denman, Ronald Emmott, Billy Joe Davis, Robert Black and Robert Dean Cleveland. They were buried in one of the cemeteries. May their memories be forever blessed.

There was a good turnout for the Iola Food Pantry Saturday, June 18, at the Iola Missionary Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. I was told approximately 55 people or families were assisted. The pantry is open the third Saturday of each month for anyone in need of a helping hand. Thanks to all that worked the day of and the day before to help set up.

Approximately 15 people attended a party at the home of Chip and Trish Mosier. There was good food and a variety of games.

The couple also received word that his sister Linda died Friday, June 17. She was a resident of Cameron. They attended her funeral. Do remember this family in your prayers.

Alec Pointer and his son A.J., attended the Republican State Convention last week. Alec was a delegate and A.J. was a page. I am glad they were able to serve our State in this way.

Orphans Friend Masonic Lodge No. 17 will host their monthly meeting at their lodge hall in Anderson Monday, July 4. The meeting will begin with a covered dish meal at 6 p.m. followed by the business meeting.

Bedias Masonic Lodge No. 651 will meet Tuesday, July 5, at their lodge hall. The meeting will begin with a covered dish meal at 6:30 p.m. with the business meeting to follow. All masons are invited to attend.

Evergreen Baptist Church celebrated Father’s Day Sunday, June 19, by giving bottles of coke and peanuts to the fathers during the service. I remember well when my parents, Clyde and Ruby Maxwell, put peanuts in their coke. I remember doing the same.

James and Patricia Ann Blount Kyle, married July 1, 1967; Join me in wishing them many more years of happiness together.
