Main St. festivities & Twilight Firelight Saturday

Winner number 13 of the 2nd Annual St. Joseph’s Catholic Church 52-week gun raffle was drawn Sunday, Nov. 21. The winner of a Taurus G2C 9mm is Shawn Jeffcoat of Manor. The next drawing will take place Sunday, Nov. 28.

The busy holiday season has begun. Saturday, Nov. 27 will be a busy day on Main St. in Anderson. The Grimes County Animal Rescue will host the HOWL-IDAY Courthouse Lighting Festival. The fun will begin at 2 p.m. Festivities will include pictures with Santa, food, hot chocolate, crafts, activities, vendors, booths, Christmas music and more. The lighting of the courthouse will take place and then fun at the Fanthorp will end the evening.

Twilight Firelight at the Fanthorp Inn State Park will be from 6-9 p.m. If you haven’t experienced this event, now is the time to check it out. Gather in front of the Grimes County Courthouse where a horsedrawn stagecoach will pick you up and deliver you to the Inn. Once your foot steps off the coach, staff and volunteers will transport you to 1850’s Texas where you will tour the spectacular candlelit Fanthorp Inn. Costumed re-enactors, music and dancing will continue throughout the evening. No reservations are required. While there is no admission fee, a cash donation to support this event and our other special programs is requested. The 26th Annual KBTX Food for Families food drive is set for Wednesday, Dec. 1 from 6 a.m. until 7 p.m. at Citizens State Bank in Navasota. On Dec. 1 you can deliver any food or monetary donations to Citizens State Bank with 100% of donations staying in the county they are donated in. Donations can also be made online at kbtx.com. If you have any questions or would like to volunteer at the Food Drive, please contact Erin Hughes, ehughes@mselectric.com.

Evelyn Szymczak, coordinator of the Grimes County Senior Center in Anderson extends her appreciation to all those who supported the center’s fundraiser last week. It was the best ever so far. Trevor and Razzi Pistler of Gonzales became firsttime parents on Thursday, Nov. 18 with the arrival of a baby daughter, Quill Darby Pistler. Quill’s grandparents include Bobby Pistler of Anderson, Jacade Isbell of Navasota as well as Darby and Teena Beyer of Gonzales. Congratulations to this sweet couple.

Scott McDuffie and Jessica Walker were united in marriage at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in College Station late afternoon Friday, Nov. 19. Deacon Frank Ashley performed the ceremony. The wedding reception was held at the Weinberg at Wixon Valley in Bryan. Scott is the son of Karen McDuffie of Anderson and Tim McDuffie of Carmine. Jessica is the daughter of Garth and Jean Walker of Houston. This happy couple will make their home in College Station.

Don and I would like to wish each and every one a very Happy Thanksgiving. Hope many families like ours can gather to celebrate this special occasion.
