Mayor Hale signs Disaster Declaration

A Mayoral Declaration of Local State of Disaster due to Public Health Emergency has been issued by Mayor Karen Hale for the City of Plantersville. This declaration authorizes the city to take any action necessary to promote health and suppress the virus, including the quarantine of persons and occupied structures, examining and regulating hospitals, etc.

The United States has passed China on the numbers of cases of Coronavirus. Everyone please be careful and safe.

The first U.S. census was conducted in 1790, led by Secretary of State Thomas Jefferson during George Washington’s presidency. Every 10 years, the U S. Census Bureau counts the nation’s population to determine representation in Congress and help inform how federal dollars will be distributed. I’m glad our community is finally receiving distributed federal dollars to fix our roads, etc.

For the 2020 census, the Census Bureau is hiring hundreds of thousands of people across the country for temporary positions, including enumerates, office staff and recruiting assistants. To apply for a job doing Census go to 2020census.gov/jobs or text “Texas jobs” to 313131. You will receive the Census forms in the mail. You can also answer questions via the internet and submit it. Visit www.census.gov.

The city of Plantersville Alderman has a meeting every second Monday of each month beginning at 7p.m. at the Plantersville Townhall.

Coronavirus has most events shut-down until further notice. I will do my best to keep you informed. I’m a senior citizen so I’m being careful in every aspect. The Lord our God is near us whenever we pray. Prayers for all. Everyone keep praying, be aware of your surroundings and be safe.

Due to Coronavirus, all Veterans need to call before going to the VA Medical Center. This will prevent you from a wasteful trip.

Dental Assistant classes will begin in Huntsville Saturday, April 25, 8 a.m. at the Texas Dental Assistant School.

The 9th Annual Crawfish Festival and Cookoff that was supposed to be held Saturday, April 25, at the Plantersville Town Hall has been cancelled for this year.

Texas Renaissance Festival is accepting applications for 25 new vendors and attractions. Applicants are asked to send a complete business proposal, photos or samples of their merchandise, art, demonstration piece to vendor@texasrenfest.com or access the vendor application online. Midsouth is conducting a survey for internet service in our area. They came out to my area and informed us they were looking at the poles, so they can install fiber optic lines for their own internet service. To find out more information or to register visit www.midsouthfiber.com.
