Hot dogs, s’mores, teens, campfire and snakes were the events at the McMillan “party barn” on Saturday. Paige, Chucky and I attended this event and I need to say that Chad is awesome with these teens. He encourages them to tell of events that have happened to them and Chad adds stories from his Ministries in Africa and other places. Those teens jump at the chance to help with chores such as getting firewood. Collecting firewood was Chucky’s favorite since he got to go with the “big boys.” Paige enjoyed her special time with Mayor Charlie. The campfire kept him mesmerized until he heard someone talk.

Now I will talk about the snake. Bobby, Mayor Charlie’s brother, has his birthday March 10 and he wanted a snake. I believe it is a ball python and it really is pretty, if you can call a snake pretty! Before the night was over, Paige, Chucky and I all held the snake. It wasn’t too bad until his head moved. That was freaky, but I didn’t even have nightmares.

The WHCVFD had their monthly business meeting March 2, with 20 members present. Two of our guests were Kat Dornak and Judge Fauth. They came to present information regarding the upcoming census. Citizens with physical addresses should be receiving these packets soon. They ask all citizens to respond to these by paper mail, online or by phone. If these are not returned, you may have a census worker come to your door to talk with you. Just remember that you do not have to give them any personal information such as social security number or account numbers. They will have badges to verify their identity. Please complete the forms because this truly benefits our county, to the tune of $1,100 per county resident.

Chad and Nancy Jane McMillan were sworn in as official members of the VFD Auxiliary. Mayor Charlie was clapping with the group for his parents. The McMillan’s provided a spaghetti meal for all members.

I am by no means knocking jury duty because that is our civic duty, but I had to set three alarms to be sure and get up early enough to get to Anderson. The courthouse parking was somewhat crazy as there was voting taking place and property sales on the courthouse steps. The good thing is that the person plead guilty, did not want a trial by jury, so the judge set the sentence and we were released. Personally, I was shocked at the sentence, the number of prison years, he received. Perhaps, our younger generation should have to sit in one of these trials and maybe they would not get involved with “controlled substances.”

Each Wednesday till Easter there will be a Lenten service at Salem Lutheran Church. There is a soup supper which starts at 6:30 p.m. and the service begins at 7:30 p.m. Visitors are always welcome to attend.
