Union Grove celebrating 135th anniversary

It is a very exciting time for our community. Union Grove Baptist Church will be celebrating their 135th Anniversary. You are invited to come join them Sunday, Aug. 4, for this big celebration, beginning at 10:30 a.m. until noon. Lunch will be provided following the service. There will be former pastors and youth directors in attendance. There will also be a memorial service for those who have gone on to be with our Lord and Savior. There will be several preachers bringing a message. The music will be special as it always is at Union Grove. Come out and join Union Grove in Richards for fellowship and a very fun and very special day. Union Grove is located at 24380 FM 149, Richards.

Make plans to attend the Bays Chapel United Methodist Church barbecue fundraiser Saturday, Aug. 3, honoring Mrs. Jane Lemmons and her love for music. The church is located at 24263, Bays Chapel, Richards. This event will begin at 11 a.m., and plates are just $8. Everyone is invited.

God sent us a breath of fresh air as cooler temperatures moved into the area recently. It was a welcomed surprise to many of us. I have been enjoying these beautiful nights and days and I hope that you have been too. I only wish it could hold out just a little bit longer.

The Shiro Seniors held their first monthly luncheon and it was a huge success as 21 people turned out for this very fun event. They played dominoes and Tip the Cow. It was fun fellowship for all! If you are a Senior over 60 and live in and around the area, Richards, Roans Prairie, Singleton and all points in between, you are invited to join them next month, Aug. 14, from 11 a.m until 2 p.m. They will be serving chicken, broccoli and rice casserole with greens and salad, along with dessert and birthday cake. Come join them for the fun and stay for lunch and play games. The event is sponsored by Shiro Feed and Fertilizer and the Shiro Civic Association. It is held at the Shiro Civic Association building.

It won’t be long till school starts back and many folks are already preparing. Richards ISD’s first day of school is Aug. 26. If you need to find out this year’s school supply list, it is on the RISD website.

Mark your calendars for Aug. 17. Come shop or sell. Richards PTO and Athletic Booster Club is hosting “Panther Trade Day,” from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. You can rent a parking spot for $25 to sell your items. They are also taking donated items.
