Whitehall News

The 75th Birthday Celebration for Grimes Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4006 was spectacular. Commander Tony Lambert and the Post did a fantastic job of making this occasion very special. There were numerous veterans and family members, auxiliary members, current and former commanders from other posts and the district in attendance to honor the Grimes VFW Post 4006.

The main hall was decorated with red, white and blue accents to include white covers on all the chairs, balloons and arrangements on the tables. All guests were served their choice of chicken fried chicken or chicken-fried steak. Special photographers were available for guests to pose under a balloon arch with the 75th celebration sign above.

Special guests from our county were included in the program and seated at the “special” guest table. The DJ playlist not only included patriotic songs but music to dance to. Thank you again, Commander Lambert for a great time.

I would like to express my condolences to Gail Sowell and her family on the death of her mother.

Did you know that food pantries usually need assistance at this time of year? I know the Ladies Circle of Salem Lutheran will be collecting nonperishable foods for the needy. If you know of any other locations for drop-off, please let me know and I will post in my column.

Sonshine Sisters met Thursday for their time of fellowship and dominos. We always have so much food so if you are interested in a little fun, come on the third Thursday of the month at Salem Lutheran Church at 10 a.m. and join us.

Grimes VFW Post 4006 and Auxiliary met for their monthly meal and business meeting. The attendance Thursday was good but there is plenty room for more former members to return or new members to come.

Our sick and homebound friends include Sue Kolojaco, Lawrence Lieder, Dorothy Mahaffey, Mary Bauer, Albin Finke, Rosa Finke, Lois Bell, Leon Gorney, Doug Taylor, Garry Wise, Kathy Cave Wells, Glenn Binder, Pauline Kaspar and Alexander Hanna, grandson of Curtis and Darla Kolojaco. Please add these friends to your prayer list.
