Last weekend was a busy one.  The new mayor of Whitehall, Charlie McMillan invited me to ride on his float in the Navasota Christmas Parade. Due to all my laughing and yelling “Merry Christmas”, I could not talk Sunday morning. I met Charlie’s other two siblings, Chase and Julia, as they came in from Texas Tech for the Inauguration held on Sunday. The other brother, Bobby, has been around town several times with Nancy and Chad.

The Inauguration was the gala affair. Mayor Charlie was escorted in by his own Secret Service that followed the marching in of several of the Diamonettes high school dance team. These young ladies performed at the request of the mayor. Little did I know when I was asked to speak, that I would be the only one. Ms. Prilly, his grandmother, was requested to do a prayer.  Frank from our Whitehall Store did the swearing in of office. I was wondering why he was wearing a suit! Hot dogs, apple pie and Blue Bell ice cream were served. Bill Mock and his Hwy 105 band played for the crowd to dance.

Charlie was also on Channel 3, KBTX that night. Newsweek and I think a Dallas channel had his little smiling face in their news, too. The family will be travelling to DC next month to visit with Senator Ted Cruz. His platform of “Make America Kind” is what our country needs, and Mayor Charlie’s journey begins!

Baking, baking and more baking has been my job for two weeks. Burn-out, is about where I am right now but I have several more things to do this week. Next week is family baking!

An apology is in order from me. I had in the news that the Whitehall Café was being enlarged but recently I heard that it was up for rent. I did not plan on misleading any of the readers.

Mike Kurtin was doing his Polish Christmas singing in Bremond while several of the fire department members were celebrating with the Mayor. He sure missed some good dance music.

Having never attended a karate belt ceremony, I was surprised at the number of Navasota students who are enrolled in this program. Yes, my Jr. Chuck Norris, Chucky, received his gold belt last night and he performed in some demos. Thanks to the Lions Club for their donation and a big thanks to Master Mendez for his 10 years of leading this program in Navasota.
