The Fanthorp Inn Focus weekend is Saturday and Sunday, March 26 and 27 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. in Anderson. The theme this month is mail call. Take a ride through history and experience what travel in early Texas was truly like on their replica stagecoach. After your journey you may want to write your folks about your experience; luckily interpreters will be on hand to demonstrate how to write, fold, seal, and post your letter just as they did when Henry Fanthorp ran the post office. The Inn was built in 1834 by Henry Fanthorp as a home for his bride, Rachel Kennard and later enlarged for hotel purposes. It also served as the first mercantile establishment and first post office (1835) in the region. Stage lines from Houston to Old Springfield and Nacogdoches to Austin crossed here. Come out to the Inn this weekend for a very interesting history lesson.
