Thanks to all who attended the Crime Stoppers Banquet Saturday evening in Anderson. It was a wonderful event that everyone enjoyed. All law enforcement present took home an envelope with gift cards and certificates thanks to businesses and donors. Officer of the Year went to DPS Corp. Jason Dominguez and the Meritorious Service Award went to Michelle Weeks of the Grimes County Sheriff’s Office. Guest speaker, Senator Lois Kolkhorst, was honored to make a presentation to GCSO Martha Smith for her endless hours of work she put in during the hunt for 3-year-old Christopher Ramirez. As a surprise to everyone in attendance Christopher and his parents and family walked in during the presentation. Christopher was wearing his G.C. Sheriff’s uniform that his aunt made him. It was heartwarming to see him there being held by Martha and others that hunted desperately for him.

Morgan Schaper, daughter of Blake and Melissa Vezurk, graduated from Anderson-Shiro High School in 2009. She and our daughter Ashleigh were classmates throughout their years of school. On Ashleigh’s ninth birthday, her girlfriends came over for a slumber party and they dressed in my old wedding dress and had the best time being “bride for the day.” On Saturday, Jan. 15, Morgan went from a pretend bride to a real bride. She became the wife of Ian Whitla, son of Fred and Lisa Whitla of Magnolia and the love of her life for the past four years, in Bryan at the Weinberg at Wixon Valley. When Morgan’s mother-in-law asked her for pictures from her past to use at the wedding, she found the picture of her in my old wedding dress. Brought back lots of memories of good times. Congratulations to this sweet couple who will make their home in Spring.
