Back to School Bash fun

Keith Civic Club held their monthly meeting Thursday, Aug. 25, at the Keith Community Center with a small number in attendance. The covered dish meal was enjoyed by all. During the business meeting a variety of ideas were discussed on ways to raise money for the new roof for the building. Some will take place soon. Several donations were given for this project. The Back to School Bash at Evergreen Baptist Church was held behind the church with approximately 150 children and adults present. A good time was had with lots of activities. There was a Kona Shaved Ice Truck and a taco truck.

Iola’s rst football game was held Friday, Aug. 26, at Bulldog Stadium against Snook. Sad to say Iola lost to them 12-0. Area residents were sorry to learn of the death of Charlotte Carol, better known as Cee Cee Candler. She was born July 25, 1950 in Jacksonville, Florida to D.L. and Violet Evans. She passed away Aug. 9. She was married to Jim Candler. They were the parents of two children and several grandchildren. Her services were held at First Baptist Church in Bryan, where they were members. They lived in the Keith Community where she played piano at Martins Prairie Baptist Church. After the service, a meal was served at Martins Prairie Church. Do remember her husband Jim and other family members in your prayers.

Peyton Ray Brown is recovering from hand surgery which he had Friday, Aug. 26. He will be out of commission for about a week. Do say a prayer for him during this time.

There was a men’s conference at Evergreen Baptist Church Sunday afternoon, Aug. 27. A film of guest speakers was shown to those present. There were 20 men attending. A steak dinner was enjoyed by all. There was a drawing for four prizes including a Yeti cup, a card for a car wash, car tools and an Academy gift card.

Happy birthday this week to the following: Sept. 3 – Trish Mosier; Sept. 4 – Tatum Court Creamer; Sept. 5 – twins David Ray Burroughs and Mary Ruth Burroughs, Andy Selman; Sept. 6 – Peyton Ray Brown; Sept. 8 – Larry Crenshaw; Sept. 9 – Bobby Halley, Minerva Hollingsworth, Bill Rohagen, George Lee Harmon; Sept. 10 – Connie Harman Selman, Michael DeHaven. Do hope your special day was a happy one.

Happy anniversary this week to the following: Alec and Crystal Pointer, married Sept. 4; Chase and Hillary Trant Baker, married Sept. 8, 2018; John Curtis and Vada Morris Stewart, married Sept. 10, 1977. Do join me in wishing them many more years of happiness together.
