Richards Civic Club announced new board members and plans for the 2022 year. Continuing in his third term as president, Don Brame is excited for the new plans and outlook for 2022. “We have been working really well over the last couple of years and this year feels very much the same. We are heading in the right direction,” Brame explained.

This year while Brame continues to take the helm as lead, Rosanna “Roxi” Montgomery will step up as vice president and rounding out the leadership team will be Stormy Gardner as treasurer and secretary for the group. The Civic Club will work to publish a new budget for 2022 and continue plans for serving local families needing meals and meal delivery. While the food pantry services of the Civic Club will continue to operate, the group will focus efforts on maintaining records as well as maintaining the average of 16-20 families per month.

Richards 4-H didn’t miss an opportunity to work on skills indoors this month. The group met to develop their food preparation and serving skills in a Food Challenge Workshop. The group of approximately 20 4-H members divided into four teams and were each given a dish to prepare. The children had to follow instructions, recipes, food and personal safety as well as ensure their dish was both edible and tasty.

Discussions with both church groups, RISD, the Civic Club and Richards VFD have been held regarding development with town incorporation and Emergency Services District for the community. While pros and cons have been weighed, most discussion is being led with the focus on providing better and stronger services to the surrounding community. No single group has led either discussion or steps- but weigh in from local government as well as other cities incorporated including Plantersville, and Navasota to name a few, are being utilized to consider all options for the area.

The largest concern for the town of Richards will be the cost to the community, a raise in taxes and whether incorporation or an ESD would benefit the town. Currently the focus will be to avoid any hike in taxes for either action and instead focus on sales taxes and the benefit of a stronger volunteer fire department, recognition of the town as a form of local government and the establishment of a town council if incorporated to help ensure the right decisions are being made.
