Crime Stoppers Banquet Saturday at KC Hall

Winner number 19 of the 2nd Annual St. Joseph’s Catholic Church 52-week gun raffle was drawn Sunday, Jan. 9. The winner of a Beretta M9, 22 LR is Lawrence Schadler of Magnolia. The next drawing will take place Sunday, Jan. 16.

The Grimes County Mobile Food Bank will be open Thursday, Jan. 13 from 9:30-10:45 a.m. on the back lot at the Grimes Co. Fairgrounds. All residents of Grimes Co. will be served and will only need to show their driver’s license when they complete the once a year Client Assistant Intake Form. The annual Crime Stoppers Banquet is set for Saturday evening, Jan. 15 at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Anderson. Doors open at 5:15 p.m. This event is free to all law enforcement but the public in attendance is asked to donate to Crime Stoppers. A barbecue dinner will be provided by Mark McGinty & Best Thing Smoking. Our Senator Lois Kolkhorst will be the guest speaker. The American Legion Post 640 is holding a benefit Saturday, Jan. 22 from noon till 5 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall located on Hwy. 90 in Anderson. The afternoon event will include music, silent auction, door prizes and a raffle. Admission is $15 or $20 at the door with children under six free. Admission includes a meal of two hot dogs, chips and a drink. Live entertainment includes Terry Price, an Elvis tribute artist and Bill Mock of the Highway 105 Band. Price has performed in Memphis, Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas, Branson, Mo., Hawaii, Canada, and at Santa’s Wonderland in College Station. He is an award-winning Elvis tribute artist. No jumpsuits or wigs, just great Elvis music and an energetic show. Bill Mock is a talented, well-known local favorite who has been performing professionally for many years. Kyla DeHaven, daughter of Lane and Lara DeHaven of Plantersville, became the wife of Dylan Sharp, son of Tim and Julie Sharp of Plano, Friday evening Jan. 7. The ceremony, dinner and dance reception were held at Venue 311 in Plantersville. Dylan and Kyla will make their home in Lubbock where they met attending Texas Tech. Dylan graduated in August and is a manager at Target in Lubbock and Kyla is a senior this year. Kyla is special to the hearts of Don and I as she was a member of the Grimes County Jr. Mounted Posse for years. Congratulations to this sweet couple.
