The Grimes County Senior Center will hold their annual fundraiser Wednesday, Nov. 16 at the center, 129 S. Main St. in Anderson. A hot dog lunch including chips, dessert and a drink will be served from 11 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. A one hot dog lunch is $10, and a two hot dog lunch is $12. There will also be a silent auction and raffle. Tickets are $5 for a book of six tickets. Raffle drawing will be held at 2 p.m. For more information call the center, 936-873-2818.

The Anderson-Shiro Elementary Fall Book Fair continues through Nov. 18 in the library. Come shop all week during school hours or until 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17. It’s a perfect time to Christmas shop. Thanksgiving holiday is Nov. 22-26. It’s hard to believe the holidays are here once again.

Looking for something to do with the family after Thanksgiving? Why not travel back in time and experience the holiday season at Fanthorp Inn in Anderson. One of my favorite events of the year in our town is Twilight Firelight which always happens the Saturday evening after Thanksgiving. This year the event is Saturday, Nov. 26 from 6-9 p.m. at the Inn, 579 S. Main St. Activities begin at the Grimes County Courthouse where visitors board a replica stagecoach or wagon for a ride down Main Street to the Fanthorp Inn. Upon arrival visitors will step off the coach into the 1850s as the soft glow of candle flickers in the parlor window and the sound of fiddle fills the air. The atmosphere of the inn and living history personalities bring the holiday season to life.

For more information, contact Chandler Wahrmund, chandler.wahrmund@thc.texas.gov.

Our Texas Historical Commission brings this event to you without admission fees but suggests a cash donation of $10 for adults and $5 for students (12 and under). No reservations are required. Tickets will be available beginning at 5:30 p.m. on that day near the Courthouse parking area where the stagecoach and/or wagon rides to the Inn will begin. Please dress appropriately for the season and be prepared for the weather as the event will take place in a period setting with some portions outdoors. Attendees will be able to visit the first floor of the Inn as well as the barn and restrooms.
