The weather could not have been any better for all the events in Anderson this past weekend. Tracy Byrd headlined Anderson Holiday Fest on Saturday which featured other performers such as Jason Cassidy, Bri Bagwell, Rick Trevino, Jeff Canada and others. It was a wonderful evening and Tracy Byrd provided a superior 1.5 hours of pure entertainment. He told a story that brought back lots of memories and put a smile on my face.

Byrd said back in the day when he was growing up, they would go to the movies maybe twice a year. His mother had two purses – one for every day and a much larger purse. That one was the “go to the movies” purse because she would put popcorn in bags with each one’s name on it in the purse as well as drinks that she had put in the freezer wrapped in tin foil the night before. By the time they got to the movies, the drinks were a perfect icy slush. She would also go to the discount store and buy old candy bars with gray chocolate instead of fresh chocolate candy. Tracy said it didn’t really matter because it was in the dark and they couldn’t tell what color the chocolate was. Ahhhh, been there, done that but it was all good and wonderful back then.

On Sunday evening, Dec. 4, the inagural Anderson Christmas Parade took place on Main St. It was a huge success with 70 entries participating in the parade. Winners of the parade entries include: Best Antique Tractor – Landers BBQ & Catering, Best Antique Car – Brazos Land Co., Best Mounted group – Montgomery County Mounted Posse, Best Organization float – Anderson-Shiro PTO, Best Business float – Mobile Homes for Less, Best Individual float – Paul Coronado Family, Best ATV – KHD Ranch (Harris Family), and Best Service Vehicle – Anderson Volunteer Fire Department. Santa was on hand to pass out fruit bags to all the children.

The Annual Jingle Bell Market will be held Saturday, Dec. 10 from 9 a.m.- 3 p.m. at Anderson-Shiro High School. Plan to come out and support over 30 local vendors. You are sure to find some special and unique Christmas gifts. Santa will be available for pictures. Breakfast and lunch will be available for purchase.
