Evergreen Baptist Church celebrated Palm Sunday Apr. 10, with a good number of members and visitors attending. The morning worship service was enjoyed by all. Following the service there was an Easter Egg hunt for the children and a covered dish meal with great food and desserts.

Area residents were sorry to learn of the death of former Keith resident, Mablean Johns Tennell, who passed away Thursday, March 31, at the age of 84. At the time of her death she was living in Bryan. Visitation was held at Jones Washington Mortuary in Bryan and the service was held at Greater Tabernacle Church. Her burial was at Oakwood Cemetery in Bryan. She and her former husband, S.T. Tennell had approximately 12 children, some who preceded her in death. They lived on CR 172 and the children attended Iola High School. They were all good neighbors and will be missed by all that knew them. Her service was led by Rev. R.D. Hayes. Her son, Rev. Curtis Tennell and son, Jerry Tennell, and others also spoke at the service. Do remember all her children and other family members in your prayers.

Residents were also sorry to learn of the death of Jimmy Brown, a former Iola resident, who passed away Apr. 9. He was the son of J.P. and Artie Brown. In 1969 he graduated from Iola High School. He lived in Brenham many years with his wife Sharon and sons Doug and Matt. His wife preceded him in death. Visitation was held Apr. 13 and his funeral was held the following day. He was buried beside his wife in Brenham. Do remember their sons and other family members – including his brothers in your prayers.
